چکیده

A posterolateral stability of the knee is maintained by numerous ligaments, tendons, and muscles including the biceps femoris tendon (BFT) and the lateral collateral ligament (LCL). The BFT functions as an external rotator of the tibia, and provides forceful stability to the knee. There were several previous reports on the distal insertion patterns of the BFT and LCL, and they do not agree with one another. In a radiological study which includes the fibular attachINTRODUCTION Received; July 14, 2014Revised; August 6, 2014 Accepted; August 19, 2014 Corresponding author : Kyung Nam Ryu, M.D. Department of Radiology, Kyung Hee University Hospital, 23 Kyungheedaero, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul 130-872, Korea. Anatomical Reconsideration of the Lateral Collateral Ligament in the Human Knee: Anatomical Observation and Literature Review

In the published literature as well as in the most commonly used textbooks, the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) is described as having 1 attachment at the lateral epicondyle of the femur and another at the head of the fibula. In this article, we reconsider the attachments, the length of the LCL, and the tissues surrounding the LCL by presenting our anatomical observations and by reviewing the...

Novel Operation of Snapping Biceps Femoris Tendon

Snapping biceps femoris tendon (BFT) over the fibular head is an uncommon cause of lateral knee pain, with few case reports in the literature.1–12 Reported causes include anomalous tendon insertion, tears at the tendon insertion site, abnormality of the fibular head, and tendon subluxation despite normal anatomy. When nonoperative management fails, various surgical treatment techniques have bee...

Lateral stabilizing structures of the knee: functional anatomy and injuries assessed with MR imaging.

The lateral aspect of the knee is stabilized by a complex arrangement of ligaments, tendons, and muscles. These structures can be demonstrated with routine spin-echo magnetic resonance (MR) imaging sequences performed in the sagittal, coronal, and axial planes. Anterolateral stabilization is provided by the capsule and iliotibial tract. Posterolateral stabilization is provided by the arcuate li...

Endoscopic Curettage of Bone Cyst of the Fibular Head

Open resection of cystic or other benign intramedullary lesions of the fibular head and neck requires dissection and mobilization of the common peroneal nerve. The purpose of this Technical Note is to describe a minimally invasive approach of fibular head bone endoscopy for resection of a bone cyst or other benign intramedullary lesions of the fibular head and neck. The common peroneal nerve, b...

Primary total knee arthroplasty in the valgus knee: creating a balanced soft tissue envelope.

Lateral tissue releases in valgus total knee arthroplasty frequently produce asymmetric flexion-extension gaps and ligamentous instability. This study compared 2 lateral-release sequences and quantified the effects of sequential lateral capsular ligamentous structure release. One knee from 7 paired specimens was released according to a 4-step sequence: posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), ibiotib...
